In a brutal near-future landscape decimated by a global flu pandemic, former mechanic and civilian pilot Hig lives an isolated, survival-driven existence inside a remote Colorado airplane hangar alongside his dog Jasper and a heavily armed, paranoid military survivalist named Bangley. While Bangley aggressively enforces a ruthless, kill-or-be-killed perimeter against roaming scavengers, Hig remains deeply haunted by the grief of losing his wife and yearns for human connection. When he intercepts a mysterious, distant radio transmission on his Cessna aircraft, it ignites a flicker of hope that civilization might still exist somewhere beyond their compound. Risking everything against Bangley’s advice, Hig flies out into the dangerous unknown to track down the signal, embarking on a melancholic journey that leads him to an enclave in Grand Junction, where he encounters a territorial family, a physician named Cima, and a chance to rediscover his own humanity.
