Based on true events and inspired by Ed Douglas’s book, the film chronicles the incredible journey of Tenzing Norgay, a gifted Himalayan Sherpa climber who rose from a humble yak herder to become a premier guide. Driven by a lifelong dream and a deep spiritual reverence for Chomolungma—the sacred mother goddess known to the West as Mount Everest—Tenzing fights for his rightful place on the historic 1953 British climbing expedition rather than merely serving it. Alongside New Zealand mountaineer Edmund Hillary, he embarks on an perilous ascent marked by severe high-altitude elements, class divisions, and competing ambitions. Ultimately, as empire and rank strip away on the world’s tallest peak, two outsiders must form a bond of deep mutual trust to survive and achieve the first successful summit in human history.
