Set against the devastating backdrop of the Great Madras Famine of 1876–1878, the film reconstructs a haunting chapter of colonial South India where harsh British Raj taxation and massive grain exports turn a natural drought into a man-made catastrophe. As millions face starvation, the ruthless British commissioner Sir Theodore Hector arrives to enforce extreme colonial policies, aggressively draining the region of its basic food supply. Emerging from the drought-stricken soil of Rayalaseema, a fierce local hero named Singanamala Bobbili Ranabaali rises as a symbol of resistance. Alongside his courageous wife Jayamma, Ranabaali organizes the famine-ravaged community to revolt, leading high-stakes raids to reclaim hoarded food grains and directly challenging the heavily armed colonial forces in a brutal war for survival.
