Plot Summary:
Kaantha (2025) is a gripping biographical thriller that delves into the turbulent journey of a talented filmmaker, Ayya, and his complex relationship with his protege-turned-superstar, T. K. Mahadevan, played by Dulquer Salmaan. Set in the golden era of Indian cinema during the 1950s, the film explores the rise of Mahadevan from an ordinary man to the celebrated actor known as Nata Chakravarthy. The story is a deep dive into the power dynamics of the film industry, the egos of its larger-than-life stars, and the devastating toll it takes on relationships. As Mahadevan’s fame rises, his relationship with his mentor, Ayya (P. Samuthirakani), starts to deteriorate. Their bond is tested when Ayya’s dream project, Shaantha, takes shape, but Mahadevan’s ego takes control, forcing the project to be rebranded as Kaantha. This shift in power leads to a series of internal conflicts, both on and off the set. The arrival of a new debutant actress, Raja Kumari (Bhagyashri Borse), who prefers to listen to Ayya instead of Mahadevan, adds fuel to the growing tension. As egos clash, the story builds to a dramatic climax where, during the shooting of Kaantha, a murder occurs, adding an eerie layer of mystery to the tale.
