Set during the early 20th century, the film explores the troubled relationship between Mahatma Gandhi and his eldest son, Harilal Gandhi. While Gandhi dedicates his life to India’s freedom struggle and his ideals, Harilal struggles with his father’s expectations and dreams of becoming a barrister. Their conflicting ambitions gradually create a deep emotional distance between father and son, as Harilal’s personal failures, financial troubles and changing beliefs lead him down a difficult path. The story offers a deeply personal look at Gandhi not only as a national leader, but also as a father whose ideals profoundly affected his family.
