Canvas follows the journey of an abstract artist, Stephan Ormand, who is struggling to find a coherent aesthetic while balancing his love for art, his live-in girlfriend Christina, and his younger brother Thomas. The film is inspired by the letters Vincent Van Gogh wrote to his brother Theo and is set in modern-day Chicago. As Stephan grapples with his obsessive and self-destructive tendencies, he alienates those closest to him, including Christina, who must navigate the chaos of his life. Through the epistolary format, the film explores themes of love, obsession, and the quest for artistic identity, with elements of humor and personal growth, offering a poignant reflection on the struggles of a tortured artist.
